Cormorant predation mortality of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in coastal and archipelago areas, northern Baltic Sea

چکیده
Abstract Perch (Perca fluviatilis) is an important prey species of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) in coastal waters northern Baltic Sea. The annual predation mortality caused by cormorants was estimated based on consumed numbers perch relation to abundance vulnerable age groups sea. We used existing stock assessment data (Archipelago Sea) or a simple population model other areas (Gulf Finland, Bothnian Sea, and Quark), commercial recreational catches, fishing natural mortalities, with distributions describing our understanding about likelihood different values for every variable. median 4–10% annually, depending sea area. area-specific 80% limits ranged from 3 21% annually. Compared recent tagging study Quark, cormorant-induced estimates were considerably lower, but partly overlapped. results sensitive number population, which turn largely depends young groups.

Feeding range of age 1+ year Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis in the Baltic Sea.
Using the widespread Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis as a model organism, feeding ranges were investigated using stable-isotope ratios (δ15 N and δ13 C) and body condition. Differences were found between closely located sampling sites in a littoral area without obvious migration barriers, indicating that individual fish had small feeding ranges. Body condition differences between sampled stati...
متن کاملFirst-year overwinter mortality in Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis L.)
The importance of overwinter mortality of 0+ perch (Perm fluviatilis L.) in central European lakes was estimated using a stochastic simulation model. The probability of overwinter mortality of a perch co hort was calculated by using a model developed for yellow perch (P. flavescens Mitchill). Winter duration from a long-term data set and the length of perch at the end of the first year from fi...
متن کاملSperm characteristics in perch Perca fluviatilis L
Sperm production is a crucial factor for the potential reproductive success of males in many species (Nakatsuru & Kramer, 1982). Especially under strong sperm competition, higher sperm numbers in the ejaculates are likely to increase a male’s chance of fertilization (Parker et al., 1996). But sperm production is limited by physiological constraints, e.g. by testis size, which often depends on t...
متن کاملHigh summer concentrations of mercury in big perch (Perca fluviatilis L) from the Tvärminne archipelago (SW Finland) and Nåtö (Aland Islands) Baltic sea.
During high summer seasons in 1994-1999 84 big (20-42 cm total length) female perch (Perca fluviatilis L) were sampled from the waters around Tvärminne Zoological Station on the Hanko-Hangö peninsula on the SW coast of Finland for mercury analysis. Additional sampling of 13 big female perch during the same season were carried out from the waters of Nåtö Biological Station on the Aland Islands i...
